Russia requires Australian citizens to get a visa before travel via a Russian embassy. Since the invasion of Ukraine, Smartraveller advises Do Not Travel to Russia. Flights from Australia are limited, sanctions have cut off Western payment cards, and foreign nationals have been arbitrarily detained.
